As well as producing information services and publications; BCIS has been continuously engaged in consultancy and research projects for a variety of Government departments and commercial organisations.

Clients include the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR), Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), the Scottish Government, Defence Estates, Construction Skills, Association of British Insurers, the Housing Corporation, Yorkshire Water, the Brick Development Association and Rail Link Engineering.

BCIS uses a variety of techniques including forecasting, market research and statistical analysis. This work has been applied in a number of areas including assessing the impact of planned construction and building legislation.

BCIS published data is used by consultants, clients and contractors to produce specific estimates for option appraisals; early cost advice; cost planning; benchmarking; whole life costing; facilities and maintenance budgeting, etc.
