Free Software for Quantity Surveyors

BCIS (Building Cost Information Service) has launched a new free software program - BCIS Analysis XML Writer. Quantity Surveyors now have a new tool to help them manage information vital for the cost planning of building projects. The software will store cost analyses of building projects in an industry standard format which can then be easily submitted to BCIS for publication to the construction industry or used locally in third party cost planning applications.

The software will allow surveyors to input and manage cost analyses in XML format for the first time, saving time whilst improving data reliability by helping users ensure information recorded is free from errors. Other features include loading analyses into an Excel spreadsheet to allow quick and simple manipulation of the data, electronic transfer of analyses to BCIS (under user control), extensive help including elemental definitions, and updating standard codes and descriptions using web services.
